Hello everyone!
Today i'd like to tell you about one article from The Guardian newspaper.
This article was about films which tell us about terminally ill teens, and as example there was new movie called Five Feet Apart. This is the latest film about doomed young heartthrobs – a trope rife in popular culture since Romeo and Juliet. This article criticizes the films about two teenagers who are fall in love with each other and both have the same or different diseases. Such films have become very ordinary and cliched, and each of them has almost the same plot and scenes. Five Feet Apart is no exception. It tells us about two teenagers who both have cystic fibrosis – a genetic condition that leads to buildup of fluid in the lungs. More than half of sufferers die before they reach 28 years old. To prevent cross-infection, people with CF must not come within six feet of each other, hence the title: when these two fall in love, they decide to steal back a foot’s worth of intimacy. Five Feet Apart has already drawn some critisism for glamourising CF, and promoting dangerous practice (the “six feet” rule is there for a good reason).
In my opinion nowdays there are really a lot of films about sick teenagers, they become viral. Hollywood has the obsession of them. They are almost the same, but anyway they attract the audience and people watch them. I like this kind of films, despite the fact that they are very sad, and i'd like to go to the cinema and watch Five Feet Apart. These films show that we have to fight with the problem of terminally diseases. I consider that such films should be shot, but the filmdirectors need to create something new, change the plot a little bit.
In conclusion i want to say that every film has its own meaning. Whatever film you watch you should learn something for yourself. As i've said now there are a lot of films about sick teenagers and there is almost no difference between them, anyway people will always watch them. I half agree with the author of this article, but i respect all the opinions.
Dear Julie, are you going to watch this film? What is your predictions about it?
